Uhoh... sounds like a hardware failure then..... grab a Linux Live disk and see if it's working fine.
And you're right Slush, my Vista runs for almost 2 years without a reinstall and it's working^^
mine gets frequently resinstalled
But, that's more due to my determination to get Leopard on the damned thing sooner or later

My guess ,. >> graphics card,. if i am correct vista desktop uses openGL,.!? for aero,.
i had say def hardware graphics error,.
EDIT: no phun if its a graphics hardware,.
It came with Vista, Slush. Well now it runs fine, but I'm still on the classic style just to be safe.
so your blind now??
damn that seriously sucks!!
i would die if i were blind...
language joke, vista in spanish means vision as in eye sight, so if your vista exploded, your eyes exploded and you're probably blind now

yub,. vista uses direct x for desktop,.
Yeah I reckon, stop bashing Vista. I've been using Vista for nearly a year now, but have been using Server 2008 for about 3 months [basically the same but hell faster with the downside of even lower compatibility] and still dual-boot to XP for high-performance gaming because my PC is a piece of poo poo Pentium 4, and XP is just so inefficient at doing anything productive except play games. When Windows Vista/2008 is used and configured properly, not by some conservative n00b who can't handle the change, it STOMPS the donkey off XP, and the slight loss in performance is more than worth it! Vista/2008 uses SUPERFETCH to eat RAM on PURPOSE to pre-buffer your frequently used programs and stuff, while just XP lets it all go to waste! Try it man - in Vista - Install Office Photoshop or Adobe Acrobat and load it. slowish right? Restart. Then load it again - a little faster! Caching is my sweet lover...
Anyway, enopugh bashing of these XP elitists who don't even know what they are talking about and probably running an Athlon64 with 1GB of RAM...
On topic, my suggestion to you my friend, is to STOP OVERCLOCKING YOUR VIDEO CARD!!! HAHA! Nah seriously though, check the fan on the GPU chip and stuff. It might have failed, or the heatsink might have buggered up and gotten loose. It looks very much to me like heat damage - if it is permanent, even after leaving the computer off for a day and you find it still has it, I think your card has had it :'(
And yeah, the DWM Hardware Acceleration or "Aero" as its marketed uses Direct3D/DirectX10 to accelerate the user interface, improving on the XP GDI+ [used since Windows 98] which renderes it in software, and if you are an uber l33t d00d like me guys rofl - you SURE DO NOTICE how much ur Vista/2008 PC cruuuuiiiiiizes when you've got a poo poo load of Explorer windows and Firefox tabs open hey! Cause all that UI rendering is being shared with the GPU freeing up your CPU for other goodies hehe.....
Ah i love Server 2008. It's like Vista without all the junk. Even if some software does bitch and whine about "Can't INSTALL ON SERVER OS" its still excellent!
