well this is the story
i bought 2 gigs of ram just about a week ago
for about three days i noticed my computer running pretty hot, but i thought it wasn't much of a problem
now its been abut 8 days since i had the ram installed and i left the house for about 3 hours (but the computer was running from 5 hours before), and when i came back i found my computer off
puzzled, i pressed the power button and it wouldnt turn on; i unplugged the cables; switched off the power box and then tried again. Still no response.
I was told that while i was away the computer just made a crack and turned itself right off.
Im confused now, my mother board still shows signs of life (like the lights are still on, on the mother board) but no matter how hard i try i cannot get the computer to boot
ive removed the two new rams, and it still doesn't turn on
i need some serious help of what to do next
my mobo is a m2n32 sli deluxe mobo
thank if anyone can help me, i need my computer back really bad

Generally, start pulling out non-essential components and see if it starts up (just leave the CPU, one RAM stick, m/b and PSU connected and see if it starts up, if not, there's an issue with one of them).
Generally motherboards automatically switch off if heat exceeds a certain level (and would certainly expect an ASUS Deluxe board to do that), so I don't quite think it's a heat issue, but possible.
i removed everything and installed a one gig stick; and the darn thing won't boot on
they said there's a manual way of starting the mobo, but i have no idea on how to do that.....
i just can't see how its a problem with the mobo though because when the power is connected you can hear the speakers go "poof" and the monitor lights and onboard LED's go on and stay on, yet it still refuses to boot.
Wait, so when you turn the power on, the m/b's LEDs actually go on and stay on? If so, does your motherboard have a diagnostic thing? On mine, it's a separate bracket with some LEDs you connect to a certain spot on the motherboard. When starting up, the LEDs tell you what stage the motherboard is in the boot process. If you have that, it should help.

when i say power on, its just when i turn on the power box; that's it..........
but i can't just do anything because it just won't boot to the bios; nothing else will turn on.
i cleared its rtc memory, reinstalled its battery; just still doesn't work :( im going to check if there is some diagnostics to my mobo, which i sure hope there is.....

That's fine, I mean does the motherboard do
anything like show the power LEDs connected to your case?
Or is it just the PSU fan spinning up?
If the power LED is turning on for your PC (monitor has nothing to do with this), then the motherboard isn't (at least completely) destroyed, so you can diagnose from there. If the power LED doesn't go up, then the motherboard is probably dead.

well im relieved that it still alive since the mobos leds go on when its connected to the PSU, but that's it really
nothing else goes on, the psu stays dead (yet its still providing power to the motherboard......) i keep pressing the power button; nothing, zip zero nothing....
i just can't see the problem here and its really confusing :S
EDIT: I just saw all the lock buttons (which is like screen lock, num lock etc) go on when i turned on the PSU, is this normal?
I'm sorry for you.... :( That sounds very similar to what my old PC did.... I was just using Skype and suddenly every USB device would loose power and my monitor would switch to "Check Signal Input" However I still could hear my PC running so I turned it of and restarted it.
The MoBo fans began to spin but that was about it, nothing else happend.
I tested the PSU, Graphics card, RAM etc. everything was still working so I must have been either the mobo itself or the CPU, sounds like it's the same for your PC.... :(
Can you test the CPU on another mobo? And have you tried to clear the BIOS? In your case it could also be the Graphics card so try another also if possible.
Hope you get it back running!
i think the problem is his power supply unit. since it won't start. i experience that alot before on my early computers.
If the motherboard is powering up, then it can't be a PSU problem?
If it just goes on for a split second, there could be a short circuit somewhere (ie dead component).
