Considering that each newer release of Windows takes up progressively more RAM (almost as if it's done deliberately), what are your bets on the RAM usage of the next Windows? (stated minimum requirement, and amount after fresh install).

Personally, I'd say probably requires around 1-2GB minimum, and probably takes over 1GB idle after a fresh install.
yeah id say they'd reccomend 2GB, for a 32bit system but maybe 1GB as the required minimum.
i don't are about this, i';m concerning how much ram does it support....

i will install vista x64 this week cause XP does not support 4GB RAM :(
i think 2GB is gonna be the idle, since vista took up 1GB easily, and this will have all the services for running touchscreens and the like on top....
on a news article on gizmodo they said it could run on systems with 1GB of ram as the whole way the operating system runs has been optimized meaning it uses less resources (i think)

XP 32bit is limited to 4GB (you'll have a bit less depending on your swap file and video memory).  This is a limitation of 32 bit addressing (232 = 4bil).  64 bit versions of XP and Vista support more than 4GB.
yeah I was under the understanding that windows 7 was supposed to support the largest array of cpu and memory configurations, being one of the 'most optimized' versions of windows yet.  I read that 6+ months ago somewhere and find it hard to believe...but maybe Bill's minions have done something good with this version.

As for how much ram it will support?  32bit should still be limited to the 3gb with the /3g switch for using more, but 64bit will support more than wee can afford!
why still develop a 32 bit OS

Its extremely unlikely that anyone with a PC that can run Win7 will have a PC old enough to require 32 bit processing
would be nice if it uses lesser ram than vista :D
