So, ive been wanting to get a 360 for quite some time now and now i have enough money to

so today, i decided to go use my money and buy a nano; but i just found out you can buy an xbox 360 arcade for only 200$$ (CAD)

see, i don't really play any games at all but i can easily get hooked on one if by chance; and I've seen the 360's games and they are totally awesome :D

sure it sounds good to me to go buy one and then buy some crappy mp3 player so i can listen to some music on the bus; but theres just one problem

the failure rate of 360's, yeah y'know......those red rings of death

see it worries me a lot that these happen very frequently (my brother had a 360, and his got the RROD; and unfortunately for him, he opened his xbox removing his warranty, which also meant he couldn't send it in)

So im really torn now in getting a 360; because i do plan to open my xbox 360 for modding reasons (I think everyone knows what i want to do :P) but if it fails even once; and if i open it, then I'll never be able to return it and my 200$ will go down the drain for nothing.

and i bet there are things better than ipods; but im too lazy to check; im just thinking of going for a sansa fuze.

I really need some more information from 360 users here (i know a lot of you guys have 360's); is it really worth the risk of buying a one???
red ring of death is caused by homos that leave their consoles running way to damn long even when they seen the 2 rings light up, you just need to limit your playing time, but i have an elite so it doesn't make much difference to me.

what does that mean? the elite has better cooling powers? :P

but i can sure limit my playing time; i don't even touch games as of right now anyway :P
Don't get the Arcade version, the 360 is useless without a HDD. As long as the 360 isn't shoved into some corner and you keep it sitting horizontally (vertical is bad for circulation and scratches your discs) all should be well. I've had 2 360s and only lost the first one because of a DVD drive malfunction, not RRoD. I actually had to try REALLY hard to give my old 360 the RRoD so I wouldn't have to pay to get the DVD drive fixed.

well it comes with a 256 mem card, and i really don't plan to watch any movies on it too Knock-knock

but i guess breakages happen, but i want to open the 360 too and mod it; but i don't want it to break after i do then i won't be able to return it (damn warranty stickers, damnt themmmmmM!)
I find it's worth it. It has one of the better online systems up (although still kinda buggy and full of assholes),  there's a huge collection of games, and most of them are fairly well made. With the addition of the XBLA (Xbox Live Arcade) you can download games, both 3rd and original xbox. Like people have been saying, just keep it in an open area and don't play for hours on end. My bro plays ours for ~5 hours a day and wee haven't gotten the RRoD. Also, there are other forms of the RRoD. The one your worried about is 3 rings. If your going to mod it anyways, you could always cut some holes and add some fans or something. There's also plenty of 3rd party parts that help with cooling.

The elite (if you don't know by know) is pretty much a super version of the regular 360. Bigger hard drive, HDMI port (i think all new 360's have that, idk) and it's black.
yeah, i think its a really good idea to buy a 360 now

the only problem is how im going to get the 360 back home in one piece (its because i use the bus to get to the store and back; and carrying around a huge box with a 200$ system is a bit of a problem....)

i CAN drive, but only at a learners level; which requires me to have an adult with me anyway :( (just one year and I'll be able to drive alone If)
hmm....

i guess for the bus, you could hire someone big to help guard you or something. Maybe try disguising the box in a big bag. Convince one of your parents to ride with you. Or, if your a really good driver, you could risk going alone. I did every once and a while at the permit stage.      <.<     >.>     (don't arrest me police men). Maybe a good/close.trusting neighbor or something could ride with you. Idk, but I'm sure you'll figure something out.

Have fun getting all that DLC to fit on 256MB.
memory card =/= primary storage device
