ix_stylez Wrote:is it rewritable? cause if it is it is just like another harddrive.
they would be really stupid to not make it re-writeable. it would be a really big hard-drive at that
it would be good if they some-how made a new technology so that it would be like a usb flash drive where you can just drag-n-drop stuff instead of continually re-burning the disc :D
lol
if i had a 50tb harddrive
i would never overwrite anything
just write and append :P insta-backup
The sad thing about technology like this is that even if they manage to perfect it and make it a viable alternative to the current disc technology, it won't be available for a very long time.
The reason for this is that the MPAA and the RIAA have a stranglehold on media. They are the reason that double layer and dual layer DVD's are still so expensive. It's not because of manufacturing costs.
Just look at holographic discs. Where are they? I heard about them a long time ago and at least two companies promised products in 2006, yet mysteriously they are absent.
It's no mystery: it's politics.
I hate that spoon.
^^Good point.
There really needs to be something to drive these kinds of stuff though. Like Blu-ray is pushed by the PS3 and HD-DVD pushed by the Xbox360... Dunno if either of these standards will replace DVDs though.
At the current Blu-Ray and HD-DVD pricing, DVDs will at least live for i say 3 more years. At least.
And by then, way better technology, like holographic disks or even the protein-coated disks may be on the markets.
Ah, poo poo, i forgot to login. lol.
That guest post was mine.
i am an idiot and can't read :P
anyway 50Tb disks will be commonplace very soon.
uhuh just like 128 core cpu's
lol, people are making tooooo much stuff
hust when i thought blue-ray was cutting edge
but wow, 50 TB, that's amazing, if i had the money i would definately invest if they also made it last for as long as a normal HDD
this is cool 50 tb of songs movies videos n games
i want to get one lol
