download, burn, boot from the disk, test!
something else you could do is find a program that can check the S.M.A.R.T. status of your hdd's. SpeedFan can do this as well as monitor your temps and fan RPM's. its good to have a copy of it anyway. once its installed go to the S.M.A.R.T. tab, select your drive from the dropdown lits at the top and it will tell you how healthy the selected hard drive is as well as its performance.
also, far easier and quick, and possibly just as effective:
turn off your pc (Finish reading this first), take out all your ram sticks, wipe down the contacts with a microfibre cloth (earth it against the pc case first) and blow into the ram slots on your motherboard, preferrably with an airdusterbut if not your lungs will have to do. just make sure you give any condensation a chance to clear before turning the pc back on. put the ramsticks back in making sure theyre seated properly.
also, check all your drive cables. if you use SATA drives and theyre older than a couple of years they might not have a cable retention clip. they rely on friction to hold them in place. mine need checking every few weeks because they start coming loose. if that doesn't help try swapping the cables for different ones.
one other thing, what kind of state is your PSU in? is it powerful enough? because a failing or marginal PSU can cause all kinds of problems... I've been there...
