Not too much you can do, well, I can't really tell what's wrong.
Many things you can try, but dunno if they'll work.
Try this:
1) Open Notepad
2) Copy the following:

AVISource("MyVideo.avi")3) Save the file as c.avs in the same folder as the AVI
4) See if c.avs plays back in Windows Media Player
5) If it does, try converting c.avs with XviD4PSP
Yea the only good thang about vista is that it plays avi with Windows Media Player
with no probs
