no I'm not ditching homebrew for the official firmwares, my sister is. i orignally hacked her PSP Phat a while ago, so that she could do the obvious stuff, play downloaded .iso files etc, but now she's sick of it, it keeps stuffing up so now she just wants to get to the latest Official Firmware. Please don't try to convince me not to do it for her, just help me out :P

Here's my problem:
As in the thread title, her PSP is currently running 3.03 OE-C. So i tried the usual stuff to get to the latest firmware. first i formatted the memory stick, then restored the default settings.
I then tried just putting the 4.05 Update in PSP>GAME>UPDATE and running it, all i got was a black screen
Silly Me
Then i came to my senses and realised i couldn't do that.

So then i did the proper method and got the 1.50 Eboot, and put it in PSP>GAME>RECOVERY under the name EBOOT.PBP. So i went into the recovery menu and clicked on "Run Program from PSP>GAME>RECOVERY>EBOOT.PBP". All i get is a black screen, then the PSP shuts off. Don't worry, it didn't brick, because everytime it happened, i could still load up the PSP normally. Since it wasn't working, i tried something that probably wouldn't make a difference, and changed between running that in 3.03 Kernal and 1.50 Kernal. it made no difference :(

so can anybody see what is going wrong?
Just update to 3.52-M33-3+, then update to 4.01-M33, next simply run the OFW updater. In OE updating to OFW was blocked.

If that fails, your IDStorage might be messed up, try keycleaner, than DC7 and regen a new IDS. (Only as a last resort)

Ohh.... if you have an extra battery, make a Pandora, just in case.

Edit:

Sorry 4.01-M33

oh thanks alot xero1 :D
I'll try that now and report back soon
pandora :D ... use your psp for it ... just make a plain pandora battery and itll install 1.50

then i assume it can go straight to 4.05 ^___^

or .. yeah .. what xero1 said :D

(i don't think you can just run the 1.50 eboot from the recovery ... i think u need a dump of something for that :D ... forgot all about oe's)
erm.. dc7 put in the memstick and battery then select update to official firmare, it'll take you direct to 4.01 then update using GAME/UPDATE
yay it all worked, thanks everyone for the help Madwin

In the SE/OE firmwares, a idstorage key was edited to allow the PSP to boot with a modified code. In the M33 firmwares, its native. Use ChillyWilly's KeyCleaner to undo this fix to the key (Search for bad keys, fix them all, and then do it again but undo key 5) and you will be able to upgrade using the OFW installer.
