It's come to my attention that a sale is going on in Radioshack for USB sticks. I'll need one to install XP onto it.
I've considered getting an 8 gig for this, but there is one problem. Two brands with two different prices are up for sale and I need to know why exactly the prices are so different. Here's a linky: =]
Radioshack
So is it bootable and are they the same speed?
i know you can make any usb stick bootable, but not sure about speed
i have the second one that is on there and i like it a lot
i transfer files at a rate of about 16mb per second
so it's got a pretty good speed, but i don't know about the first one
arent all usb mass storage devices bootable?
you just need to have your CMOS configured to boot up on removable storage :D
as for speed ........
idk .. but i think its up for the job :D
get the cheaper one ? XD
Paying cheaper something is obviously one of the riskier moves out there, especially when there's a more expensive one on the market. From what I've read here and other places the speed is pretty good and the thing is pretty useful. At this point it's only the durability that bothers me. Exodus, how long have you had that second stick?
And I see that you have some tutorials on how to install XP on your USB in your signature, boogshd. I've found the most interesting way that you haven't got there is by actually editing the settings of a XP disk/iso image and repacking it so that it'll install directly to your USB. ^^

ive never really tried using my usb for a portable OS :D
anyway goodluck with it :D
Cheap USB sticks are mostly a lot slower, but since you said it was a sale they might just have got a better bulk deal one a better stick. Radioshack is really good about returns so try it and if you find it very slow, return it. Get the SDCZ6-8192-A11 for 30 bucks, its 8GB and has good speed.

It's great. Not only can you possibly boot up faster but it also can be a great test subject. Like for seeing how good programs are without actually installing the program to your hard disk, leaving junk even after you uninstall. And I have done it and it's great.
I'll ending buying the second one for now. Thanks for the opinions and help everyone. =]
All the teachers in my school have that second one. They're good and they write fast.
