GCSE are high school finals in england. You take them at 16, and need to pass them if you plan to spend less than 5 years in your first stage of college education (i know someone who failed, and hes taking 4 years to do the same thing im doing in 2 (intro[1], first[1], and national diploma[2])
GCSE's were sooo long ago. Damn I feel really old now!
