4chan is the asshole of the internet. it's where all the things you hate about the internet come from.
basically yeah it's an imageboard where hundreds of images are posted per second, and get pruned after 10 pages. its very different from a forum but sort of works the same, except with images.
the people who live there make it what it is though.
a form of 1337 so 31337 that it's a black hole. an asshole.
