Most of you have probably heard this title of a series on HBO, but there are few I know that have have actually watched it. It’s definitely new in its main theme: a family-run mortuary. The series begins with the death of Nathaniel Fisher, Sr., the family’s patriarch.

From there, the main characters of the story are introduced. It starts with Nathaniel “Nate” Fisher, Jr. and Brenda Chenowith, who are having sex in the broom closet of an airport. Next introduced is Claire Fisher, who is smoking crystal meth with her boyfriend. Further on, Federico Diaz, the restorative artist who works for the Fisher family. Deeper wee go, and David Fisher (Michael C. Hall) is introduced, who ran the family business with Nathaniel Fisher. At his father’s service Officer Keith Charles of the LAPD shows, who through arguing with David, reveals himself to be David’s boyfriend. And, of course, wee can’t forget the widow Ruth Fisher, who confesses to having had an affair with her hairdresser prior to her husband’s death.

It’s all downhill from here. Well, yes and no. The series, in its entirety, focuses on topics that few shows have ever dared to look at. It is often dark and gloomy, but not without a sense of humorous irony. Well, whatever humor a talking dead person can bring.

And that's the main thing I loved about the show: Its delicious sense of irony and its "joyously dark" tone. This show's main point is that people die. Plain and simple. And it explores the lives of the people who have to deal with that death on a daily basis.

The show ended its 5-year run with this 9 minute video, summing up the lives of all the characters. If you haven't seen the series, you probably won't get it, and if you're planning on watching the series, don't watch this, as it'll lose some impact. But it still shows you how it wraps it all up.

This is probably the first ending of a series that I cried at. I'm not kidding, I wept. The final 3 episodes were such an emotional rollercoaster, ending with this future happiness.

tl;dr, I give this show a 9.5/10, and definitely recommend it to all of you.
