Now that ive got my network officially sorted out, i fancy doing some online play (its been so long XD). Ive reinstalled TF2, and am currently waiting on the update. However, as a RPG fan i keep seeing this thrown around as quite good, mostly from what i can understand is due to it not being a pay to play, but a one time option. They are doing a 14 day trial for £2 at my local gameshop, and im seriously (read, was going to but wqas 50p short) considering trying it. The issue though, is that i know no one who plays it. All my friends that play online RPG's are WoW (tool of the devil, i hate it for popularizing paid MMO's) players, and half the fun of these games is playing with people i know, as well as playing with new people.
So, what is the voids general opinion on GW. Good, bad, or ugly?
idk really... ive seen it on x-play and they said it was ok.. they are kinda harsh judges though... to me it looks like a decent game.... ive played lots of mmorpgs till the trials run out LOL.... from what i see it focuses more on PvP then PvE so that's something to consider... im a loner type in those games.. i won't even talk to people.. i just grind the hell out of one character till i get really strong then i go on massive PvP killing sprees till i get whacked by someone stronger... all in all if that's all it cost, id try it.... hey if it kills 5 hours worth of time and isn't total poo poo its worth £2 for 14 days
This game gave me a lot of issues installing so I gave up on it =/
I played it before. Still have an account (it's not pay per month, so the account won't run out). But you won't see me often these days probably. I go on sometimes to check what's up, own some people in PvP, but don't play seriously any more.
Playing an MMO takes lots of time and dedication (Even though GW is one of them that eats the least time), which I don't really have these days.
GW doesn't involve much grind, so if you don't like dumping lots of time into grinding levels, you don't need to for this game. Just doing the missions will end you up on max level with max gear, (max in terms of stats. If you want the prettiest gear and flashiest weps, then you do need to grind, but still nowhere close to as much as WoW). And it's pretty PvP oriented. Beating up other people doesn't depend on your level and how much you grinded. It depends on your build (selection of skills) and how you play them. There's like 1000-1500 or so skills all up I say (like 100-150 for each profession), so there's a lot of variations you can play, that's good too (unlike some MMOs where every class pretty much end up having the exact same skill bar).
Bad thing about it I don't like is that the explorable areas are all instanced (you have your own version of the explorable areas. Can't see the other people, only you and your party. Think of dungeons in Wow), so it's kind of less social than other MMOs, and also makes the game seem more empty than it actually is, and another consequence of instancing is that the fights and bosses can't get as "big" as in other games. In Wow, you can have a huge thing that takes 50 people to kill. In GW, you can at most get 12 people into your instance of the explorable area (most of the time it's 8), so you can't get that kind of super bosses and hard mobs, and huge messy fights involving way lots of people.
Guild Wars is a kind of different style from your normal MMORPG. Can't say if you're going to like it or not without trying it.

i bought the full version in the end. it was on offer for £10, and i am quite enjoying myself on the game, so thanks for all the input
I have the Nightfall (GoTY edition) and Prophecies campaigns. I used to play it ALL THE TIME. Now.... not so much. I just don't have the time these days.
