K, so i bought a new phone a few days ago. by now I've had suffiecient time to get used to it and find its good and bad points, of which there are many of both. the point of this thread is half a review of the phone and half a question to anyone else here who has one.
PART 1: REVIEW
for £30 you certainly get a lot for your money. 3G, 1.3MP camera, Bluetooth, MP3 player, 2gb memory stick supplied free and all your other standard phone features. the phone is made by an indian company called HuaWei and uses Sony Erricson firmware. it wors ok but isn't the most stable firmware in the world. (occasional crashes and lockups). the camera quality is average but not too bad. in low light it struggles to get a blur free picture but has very little noise in the photo (less than my normal camera). The music player leaves a little to be desired though.it will play most popular formats including AAC (LC and HE), MP3, AMR, WAV (pcm) but not WMA. the sound quality is fine at low-medium volumes but starts to distort at the second highest setting. Battery life is pretty good although i havn't really had a chance to test it properly. in the 4 days that I've had it I've charged it once and so far the battery meter hasn't gone below 2 out of 5 bars. One of the most annoying problems though, is the fact that you can't feel the edges of the buttons. this makes touch-typing style texting impossible. when pressing the 1 or 3 buttons its very easy to hit the star and end call buttons accidentily. Also the battery cover is very difficult to remove using only your hands. you will sometimes have to resort to using a knife or a screwdriver to prise it away from the rest of the phone. in an attempt to solve this problem i shaved away a few bits of plastic woth a knife but now it won't stay on without a blob of blu-tack.
all in all its excellent value for money. its capable of most of the things that my dad's phone (a SE k800i) is capable of. by far it is the best phone you can buy for £30.
PART 2: QUESTION
Does anyone here know how to install java applications on the phone? The phone supports java and according to the instruction maual its just a case of copying the *.jar and *.jad file to a folder on the memorystick, browsing for them on the phone and installing them from there. I've tried and every time i just get a message 'Failed to verify'. I've tried different apps, making sure they are meant for this model of phone but no success.
