Spoiler for previous post:
So my sister has given up on her 4gb black iPod nano so I tried to shine light on it.
Okay basically the main problem is that I get this error message in iTunes that it's in recovery mode and I need to use the restore function or something like that, which I cannot seem to work.

On the other hand I heard that the iPod I currently have can be hacked to play videos, if so can you please guide me if it's possible (in my case give me a link).

Thanks in advance.

*UPDATE*
Okay so what is now my iPod is working, however I want to install Linux because as far as I know it's the only way to play videos on my 4gb black nano.
You need a PC running Linux in order to install it on iPod however I am using the bane known as windows for various reason, I thought to get DSL (Damn Small Linux) because it be appropriate for what I am trying to achieve.

But all the mirrors from Linux.com all seem to be dead therefor I cannot install it, anyone want to help?

Thanks again in advance.

Okay I've now have obtain the ISO of Damn Small Linux, the links weren't dead, My ISP was to blame. now I just need to work it all out how to it it and all. I could probably work it out on my own but if you want to help that's fine an I'd be thankful for it too.
Okay I've found out there's an iPod Linux installer for window, the Johnny West one, but however I cannot seem to access the iPod Linux website and I searched all over and ever other site take me back to the iPod Linux website so I can't download it, any one wanting to help me out?

Bad Sparker. Making me employ my special move.
About your ipod not restoring does it give an error called error 6 or something like that cause if so just delete all downloaded firmwares for the ipod its in the itunes folder somewhere.

and yes your ipod can be hacked to play videos using linux. Use this: http://www.linux.com/feature/53221

That's only if its the 1st gen iPod. 2nd and 3rd gens have their firmwares encrypted.

@Sparker - Try going into disk mode and see if it will connect to iTunes. The same thing happened to my friend's 1 gig iPod where it had some sort of virus on it and he had to trash it.

Try an earlier version of iTunes. Since 7.7, it's been messing up for a lot of people, and I just didn't update since I still have sutff to jailbreak. :P

Ehh, this is my very, VERY first time using an iPod so I quickly checked how to do it, it's menu + center button for the iPod I have. iTunes isn't opening up. This is when the window is closed but the services are still running from processes.

quickly checked this site and followed the instructions

EDIT2: Ugh, I tried downloading DSL (Damn Small Linux) from Linux.com but I can't.
