For reasons not worth mentioning here, I have had to delay the plan to buy a lappy. Pretty disappointing and frustrating. Now that I have lost my PSP and have no current plans of replacing it, I am pretty much pissed about all this. But now that I have more time to save up and get a decent laptop, I have begun to wonder. Consider these:
1. I hate Windows.. no reason because sometimes you don't need a reason to hate something. Well truth be told, XP is old. Despite is awesomeness and obvious customizability (is that a word), the fact remains that its old... yea, I can modify the shell and everything, but its the been there, done that scenario. Secondly, if I was to upgrade to Vista, it'd be fun for sometime but then the same "Windows" feeling comes back and the entire joy of computing loses out. I need to have fun doing even a little thing if I am to pursue it. Not to mention that Vista is a massive failure, and its too much to hope that Windows 7 will be a miracle OS.
But the most prominent reason I hate windows is cause I have grown used to it. I will in no way claim that I am a complete expert (I mean I can't even write a simple Shell script, but hey! I am not a programming or a software guy!) but the thing is that Windows platform no longer challenge me. Now I know.. you're probably thinking "linux", but I don't want to be pushed hard every single time I want a new stuff! I am being extremely selfish and picky about my computing experience.
2. Linux is awesome. It really is. In fact it redefines AWESOME everytime a new distro is released. And the thing is that it will only grow. Simply cause its not tied down to the Market demand-profit cycle that Windows has. If a developer designed domething that was uber awesom, it will be integrated in the next release! simple... but now the down side to all this is the "permanent Beta" state of Linux. That is to say that it will nearly always need you to have some extra libraries or repositories to install an application. This means that it will be an unnecessary waste of time just to get one thing running! Secondly the undeniable fact that almost all the GREATEST software are NOT compatible on Linux e.g. Photoshop, Media Monkey/ iTunes/ Winamp.. etc, Guitar Pro etc..... they have their open source countr parts, and some are even more powerful than the un-free software, like Gimp in right hands is far more potent than PS. But the thing is, who in the world has time or dedication (or in my case, both) to understand the complex structure of these programs!! They may be simple, but I find them complex!
So no doubt some of the readers might have already guessed the drift of this blog. I have been wondering a lot about skipping Windows for a long time (and finally) and turning my scrutiny towards Apple. i.e OS X. Now I got it installed on my PC, but the sheer amount of hassle makes it not worth my time or patience!
Now as some may remember that I was actually considering buying a Dell Inspiron or XPS. But of late I have been wondering about that decision. I mean, buying the Dell machine means I have to put up with Windows again. Not to mention the hassles of finding the drivers if I should downgrade! Sure I could install Linux into i, but then again ... I mentioned why I don't want to make Linux as my primary os. So I have been toying with the idea of buying a macbook or, if I can increase my budget substantially, a macbook pro. My logic is ultra simple:
OS X Leopard is beautiful. Its the most beautiful looking OS anyone has ever designed. Who would not want to have it? Hell, even MS is stealing OS X ideas and implementing it into Windows! I wouldnt be surprised if they had a default dock in the next Windows.
The second logic is that it is relatively simple to run Windows XP on a Macbook (if the dire need ever comes) than the vice versa. also, I can have ubuntu installed pretty neatly on a macbook. Plus almost all important softwaer is available for mac as well, so I would not lose out anything big, apart from games, but I have my desktop for that!
So to conclude this unnecessary but "its-1 a.m.-and-I-am-bored-so-I-will-blog" blog entry, I think I will buy a Macbook in the coming future... or at least hope to buy! This way I can have the cake and eat its finger licking goodness!
