=====

The KDEWIN Installer is aimed to be a installer tool to ease kde installation on windows.
See http://commit-digest.org/issues/2007-01-14/ for an article about the background of this installer.

State
=====
The gui installer is able to download, install and update packages from different internet ftp
or http location with or without using a proxy. The command line installer is only minimal working.

NOTES
=====
- see doc/readme.txt for more informations about the idea and backgrounds of the installer

- sources are located on http://websvn.kde.org/trunk/kdesupport/k...installer/

- the released version is build using a static qt release with specific configure
  parameters, see section "static compile hints" for more informations

- to be able to use the update-mime-database package with kde please add the installation path to the
  enviromment variable KDEDIRS

- runtime dependencies should be separated from the build requirement. perl for example is a build requirement of kdebase.
- some msi files are started without displaying a gui like perl. This should be fixed

Known Bugs
==========
-  manifest files for gnuwin32 source packages does not contain the full path, there must
   be prefixed src/<package>-<version> - repackaging of the related package will help

-  packager: stripping of dll's which are in use results in deleting the related dll.
   Please make sure no one uses a dll when using the -strip option

-  gui-installer: installing dll's which are in use cancels installing of the related package

-  gui-installer: switching back to the mirror setting page when in package selecting page
   may result in package displayed twice or more.

-  gui-installer: changing compiler type is not possible when install root is changed to
   a location where no packages are installed
   » run 'del "%APPDATA%\kde\installer.ini" ' on command line and restart installer

-  gui-installer: is is not possible to deselect eigen and gmm package

Installer
Wat is a KDE?

One of the Linux desktop Environment, maybe you know Gnome? Basically most of KDE's app have been ported to windows and, made a net installer.

If you had to ask, you really have no need for this. (Not trying to sound like a smart donkey)

Yes, and no. You get the QT run time and install Konqueror, that's kind of like installing .NET and Explorer in Linux. You might be able to kill Explorer and then just use Konqueror, then all you would need is kicker. If the 1st half that works I'll look into a kicker port.

You can install an X server via Cygwin, just forget about Compiz ;). That would be damn cool though.

* xero1 damns the NT kernel to hell for being a POS
but do wee get the KDE bar?
