Alright, seeing as I'm getting everything in my life organized, I thought I would organize my video collection for when I transfer it to my laptop when I get it on wednesday or thursday. I'm planning on converting everything to MP4, so I can play it in iTunes and on my iPod and PSP, and I can keep it so I only use one player on the laptop, reducing clutter on my hard drive and whatnot. Does anyone know of a good converter that will convert the video without reducing resolution?
SUPER converter is good. its the only one i use
XviD4PSP does everything you want.
It puts all others to shame.

QFT.

Xvid4PSP (just to reinforce)
If your converting to mp4, its certainly one of the best I've used

you can set the encode priority to Idle, that might work better for you.
yup Xvid4PSP is the best ive used that's gui based.... that's what id recommend... it even works good for encoding HD stuff... all my videos are encoded with it.. batch encode FTW!!

All your videos? Depending on how many videos you have, if you have as much as I have, even if you use super ultra fast encoding settings (worse quality than slow encode), it's going to take an eternity...
Most scene releases, anime releases, that kinds of stuff are pretty optimized encodes done by highly knowledgeable encoders who knows what they're doing (at least I hope so), and by re-encoding (especially fast re-encode), your encode is likely to be inferior to theirs, and you're most likely going to loose quality at equivalent bitrates.
At higher bitrates, you won't gain, since you can't make the video look better than it originally is (ok, you can, but not with a simple encode involving no editing/filters). So your re-encoded videos will generally either look similar, or worse than before, not better.
So I don't think it's a good idea. of course, it's up to you. This is just my two cents on it.
As for using only 1 player, install a codec pack. You should then be able to play all your media with 1 media player, regardless of format.

Yeah, Xvid4PSP is pretty good. (Even though I don't use it, and use something else instead).
But I won't say it puts all others to shame.

It's not all my videos. By collection, I mean videos that I've added permanently to my collection, like my favorite movies.

That's why I'm looking for the best program, and I'm going to use it at the slowest speed possible, to keep the quality.

If you can give me the names of any better ones, please do :)
