Quote:As noted, an all white web page uses about 74 watts to display, while an all black page uses only 59 watts. I thought I would do a little math and see what could be saved by moving a high volume site to the black format.
Take at look at Google, who gets about 200 million queries a day. Let's assume each query is displayed for about 10 seconds; that means Google is running for about 550,000 hours every day on some desktop. Assuming that users run Google in full screen mode, the shift to a black background [on a CRT monitor! mjo] will save a total of 15 (74-59) watts. That turns into a global savings of 8.3 Megawatt-hours per day, or about 3000 Megawatt-hours a year. Now take into account that about 25 percent of the monitors in the world are CRTs, and at 10 cents a kilowatt-hour, that's $75,000, a goodly amount of energy and dollars for changing a few color codes.
Therefore Bloogle is an effort to save this energy by using the exact same search engine powered by google but using a black background. Thus using this Black google helps save energy in this time of energy scarcity.
Please use Bloogle as your home page and help promote the site to make the world a greener place for everyone.

Well, I know I'm gonna start using this from now on.

Yeah, I'm gonna start using this as well. Why doesn't google have stuff like this? their big as fuck, you think that they would have thought and solved this already. . . . .

I had that same thing happen, its so much easier on the eyes. . . .
Same I'll be using this aswell, thanks for posting it.
by the way it looks better than the regular google.
Bulls
hit!!!
CRTs still use the same amount of light (not saving power)
And most lcd moniters use heat not light (still not saving power)
And I don't know what runs plasmas but if your that rich to own a plasma computer monitor you can probably afford to waste the power anyway
Google themeselves even said that they aren't saving any power and that's why they don't keep their homepage like that all the time

so bulls
hit, bulls
hit, bulls
hit
also bloogle, who doesn't know what the f
uck they are talking about, aren't asscoiated with google themselves. They just use a custom google search on their webpage.
Also while I'm ranting because I hate idiots I like how they couldn't even get the original domain name
bloogle1.
I would ask you guys to not use their site to boycott their stupidity.
one last thing I would also like to ask if where did they get proof of this information? If they have a reliable source I will remove this and shut up, but until then I really hate people who pull facts out of their donkey to sound smart
well duh at the not associated thing, i think wee worked that out
Also, key word. MODERN CRT monitors DO use more energy for brighter colours, if you monitor them this becomes obvious
