I've wondered the same thing many a times.. will it be possible to make a PSP read a flash drive.
I conclude: NO.
At least not presently.
Why? Simple, the PSP's fw is designed to simply interface with PC (wrt USB) and act as a Flash drive (therefore rendering it useless for anything else, while in USB mode.). It doesn't have the power or capability to read a USB drive. More over, to make it read a flash drive would mean having to install drivers in eboot format. Can that be done? I doubt.. if wee can manage that, still it would be tough as you'd need to estab;ish communication between that two. That would require more sytem files.. eventually, it would not be worth the hassle.
All this is on the psp fw.
I believe that this can be done using a Shell and installing the drivers on the MSPD.
Another step (I wonder about this) is to create a new OS/ FW for the PSP.

i dunno but i think it would be a great step in psp memory space cause if u could have lets say a 4 gig flash drive and a 4 gig memcard that's 8 gigs of space that u can store games and other stuff i think it would be worth it

i expect its possible, as long as they can connect, they can, in theory interact
Unfortunatley, as has been stated, its ridiculously hard to do so

I recall this idea being quite old actually, mainly in the form of adding an external HDD to the PSP.
Pretty much concluded to be "no", from everything I've seen over the years.
