I offically hate my iPod now. I liked it because of all the things I could do with it. A USB Mass storage device. I could get music from any computer. I have a modified FW on it that looks amazing. I liked it even when my headphone jack started fucking up and only plays through one speaker. But now, I was using my FF Portable through my iPod, and then it just disconected itself from the CPU. The cord still pluged in, nothing is happening. I reset it(Hold on, then off, reset=menu+select) and it still didn't work. I ran a test through Diagnostic menu, and when I plugged in the cord, it didn't say that it was plugged in. I think that it just may be a hardware problem, because that's what it is with my headphone jack, but I want to see if anyone else can offer thier opinion before I go outside and smash this bitch.
sell it - get something back rather than waste it. its true the headphone jack socket can come loose (mines is also) so it doesn't actually surprise me that it has happened to the usb. so you really have 3 choices. sell it as is, or strip it for parts and sell all except the logic board. the third option is buy another logic board - there not that expensive.
of course all that may not be needed as it may still be a software issue. good luck.
I appriciate all of y'all's opinions, all of which I have considered. I don't think its the cord, an I think that it might be the Logic Board. I'm considering a major overhaul of my iPod which would include pretty much new everything, a way better battery, a 100GB HD upgrade, and clear faceplate. If I don't do this, I'll probably hold on to it until I do XD.
you could just send it in...
Get a Gigabeat.
They are way better and you can install Rockbox on em.
My 60GB one cost me $200 brand new in Harvey Norman.

I don't know why, but I actually prefer iPods for some reason. I think the challege of hacking it is appealing to me. Plus if I'm going to buy a brand new MP3 player, its gonna be either a Touch, or 160GB Classic

Yeah, but it is for the average person that doesn't even keep up with that kind of stuff, so it keeps me well informed so I can fix thiers and make a little profit along the way. . . . :)
