I have always wondered why do people pretend. They pretend to blend into a crowd, pretend to be happy if something good happens and everyone around them is laughing. Pertend to fit in. What is the motive behind all the pretense? I can answer some of that. Wee are a species that was designed to live in social circles. Like the primates of now, wee must have once hunted, eaten, slept etc in tightly packed groups. Protected each other from whatever danger. I guess our technology advanced, our level of thinking grew, our standard and mode of living improved drastically. Wee began to dominate the globe, but in all that wee never lost our most intrinsic animalic (I may have invented the word!) instincts. wee hunger for food, shelter, sex, children etc. So how have wee "changed". Wee only added a number of thing to the "need" list, but have failed to eliminate even one of the basic ones. I would have to guess that acceptance is one of them. Humans can't function properly in a lonely environment. They need the physical touch, the verbal communique, the emotional support etc. Leave a man alone on an island for a year, its a good chance that he won't be able to pull off a Tom Hanks, changing (if managing to survive) drastically.
In order to be accepted, I will have to presume that many people will lie about themselves. For instance: Guys lie to girls to get laid. girls lie... well they lie. (XD) People lie about being liberal in a society that is full of liberals. I guess that pretense comes because people will do anything to have company. Because they can't stand to not have that. Surprisingly they shed their beliefs and thought so that they won't contradict the "bigger picture."
Despicable, isn't it?
So how do you care about what people think of you?
