Twas doing exactly the same for me just now on my crappy upstairs comp, so I went to Control Panel> Automatic Updates and turned it off. Now it's fine.
not for me. automatic updates is turned off in control panel and the automatic updates service is turned off in services.msc. svchost.exe is still chugging away...
what.. after you reinstalled???
yep... what the hell is going on???
Quick little question, why do i have 7 SVChost.exe???
Having 7 is normal,

Micro$oft Wrote:Svchost.exe is a generic host process name for services that run from dynamic-link libraries (DLLs).

The Svchost.exe file is located in the %SystemRoot%\System32 folder. At startup, Svchost.exe checks the services part of the registry to construct a list of services that it must load. Multiple instances of Svchost.exe can run at the same time. Each Svchost.exe session can contain a grouping of services. Therefore, separate services can run, depending on how and where Svchost.exe is started.
And if you happen to have an svchost process located outside System32, it's probably something undesirable...
its inside system32. i just re-installed and the computer has no internet connection so its unlikely that i have a virus already.
Try get a fresh copy from somewhere(if you know what i mean *wink*) and re-install with that.
